Sip the Ultimate Ritual at TheOther Café

A new matcha café and shop brings ceremonial-grade tea, thoughtful design, and a slower rhythm to Wynwood.

Miami moves fast. Coffee is grabbed, meetings blur into afternoons, and daily rituals tend to prioritize efficiency over intention. TheOther Café, a matcha café and shop in the heart of Wynwood set to open in spring, takes a different approach, grounded in craft, clarity, and restraint.

The space marks the next chapter for TheOther, a premium matcha brand sourcing ceremonial-grade, first-harvest leaves from Uji, Japan. At its core is Master’s Blend, developed in partnership with a fifth-generation Japanese tea family. The blend favors balance over intensity with a smooth, umami-forward, naturally low in bitterness, and versatile enough for both traditional preparation and modern drinks taste.

Rather than positioning matcha as a trend or a wellness shortcut, TheOther treats it as a daily practice. Sourcing is meticulous, the design language minimal, and the experience straightforward. There’s no excess here—just an emphasis on quality, transparency, and how matcha fits into real life.

The brand is led by co-founders Michael Lillelund and Harish Koneru, whose backgrounds span fashion, wellness, technology, and global investing. That range shows up subtly throughout the space, from the clean visual language to the calm, considered atmosphere. They also debuted the brand with a killer Art Week party in December to celebrate, drawing in the likes of models, entrepreneurs and musician Central Cee for a private performance.

At the space, Japanese tea tradition is present, but filtered through a modern lens that feels natural within Wynwood’s evolving landscape. Conceived as a quieter counterpoint to the neighborhood’s usual energy, the café will invite visitors to slow down, stay present, and return to something simple. 2230 NW 2nd Ave., Miami, @the.otherofficial.
