Matcha is more than a drink; it is a ritual that transforms a simple cup of tea into a mindful ceremony. At TheOther, we bring the authentic matcha experience from Uji, Japan directly to you. Here’s how you can prepare it at home like a tea master.
Step 1: Choose the Right Matcha
Not all matcha is created equal. For the perfect preparation, always start with first-harvest matcha which is vibrant in color, smooth in taste, and naturally rich in nutrients.
Step 2: Measure & Sift
Use 1–2 grams (about half to one teaspoon) of matcha powder. Sift it into a bowl to remove clumps and ensure a silky-smooth texture.
Step 3: Add Water
Pour 70–80ml of hot water (not boiling, around 80°C). Too much heat can burn the delicate leaves, creating bitterness.
Step 4: Whisk with Care
Using a bamboo whisk (chasen), whisk briskly in an “M” or “W” motion until the tea becomes frothy. The goal is a velvety surface with tiny bubbles.
Step 5: Sip & Savor
Enjoy matcha straight for its clean, umami-rich taste. Or transform it into a latte by adding steamed milk of your choice.
TheOther Tip
Matcha preparation is not just about steps; it’s about presence. Take a deep breath, whisk slowly, and turn your daily cup into a ritual of clarity and calm.
